TRIGGERS
I want you to enjoy my books. To feel comfortable that the content matches your taste and won't open any old wounds or sensitivities.
Sometimes though a story needs to follow a certain path... one that may touch upon subjects sensitive to certain individuals. To not follow that path would damage the story.
If you have subjects you prefer to avoid, you can check the guide below to see the triggers per book. The triggers may contain story spoilers.
House of Scarabs
RAPE SCENE
The characters are being controlled by the gods who reside within them. To stop the main characters from abandoning their quest, the gods project an illusion of each character's worse fear. It was obvious to me that Ellie was such a strong character that her only fear would be an utter loss of control. Her hatred of men would make a rape her only true fear. I struggled with this storyline. Ultimately, I decided it would be disingenuous to change her fear to something less horrifying.
The rape scene is graphic, however, Ellie soon realises that it is nothing more than an illusion. The gods using her own fear to control her. From this point, the power shifts somewhat from the gods to the main characters.
SPIDERS
In the same storyline as the rape scene the gods torment Ben with hundreds of thousands of spiders. I am morbidly afraid of spiders so this was projecting my own fear onto my macho main character. I liked the quirky juxtaposition of the alpha male being brought to his knees by a bunch of arachnids. This scene is quite horrifying if you are afraid of spiders.
SWEARING
There is mild to medium swearing within the book as befits the struggle the characters face.
SEXUAL CONTENT
There is minor sexual content hinted at behind closed doors.

Genesis
VIOLENCE
Genesis contains little or no violence.
PHOBIA TRIGGERS
There are no commonly known phobia triggers in this book.
SWEARING
The book is predominantly based in a religious environment with devout people so there is no swearing in it. To be honest I wouldn't know what words would have been used in ancient pharaonic times.
SEXUAL CONTENT
There is no sexual content.
House of Resurrection
VIOLENCE
Moderate. Some hand to hand combat and a shooting scene.
PHOBIA TRIGGERS
A suicide story line. After being resurrected, some of the mummies are incapable of coping in the modern world and choose to return to their eternal rest.
SWEARING
Strong swearing. To write in the world of mercenaries with no swearing would have been disingenuous.
SEXUAL CONTENT
There are a couple of behind the closed door scenes. No explicit content.
